I can still hear former President Clinton's remarks about 'his bridge to the 21st century' in the late 90's. And we have now reached the end of the first decade of that much anticipated new century. We thought that such a gigantic turning of the page would somehow make all the wrongs right, and that we would see some redress in imbalances that plague the world. How wrong we were, indeed!Les remarques de l'ancien Président Clinton vers la fin des années '90 au sujet de «son pont vers le 21e siècle" sont toujours dans mes oreilles. Et croire que nous avons maintenant atteint la fin de cette première décennie, très attendue de ce nouveau siècle, Nous avions pensé que ce pas gigantesque vers une nouvelle page serait en quelque sorte le miracle qui denouerait tous les torts, et que nous allions voir des recours dans les déséquilibres qui affligent le monde. Que nous sommes naifs!!
Certain markers of the decade are inescapable: China is emerging as the next world power, though it does not want the responsibility that goes along with the honor. The United States plunged in what seems to be an irreversible downward spiral, and there are more poor, more hungry, more disenfranchised as the rich continue to get richer, and scandals are no longer the exception, but the norm. Why is this important to the Jewish community? If the most powerful country in the world is unable to sustain its leadership, and happens to be your most staunch supporter, who will Israel count on to deliver that veto that allows it, time and again, to act in impunity? Something to think about.
Certains jalons de cette décennie sont inéluctables: la Chine est en train de devenir la prochaine puissance mondiale, même si elle refuse la responsabilité qui va de pair avec l'honneur. Les États-Unis semblent plongés dans une baisse successive, régulière et irréversible: il ya plus de pauvres, plus d'affamés, plus de démunis dans le monde; les riches continuent de s'enrichir, et les scandales ne sont plus l'exception mais la norme. Pourquoi est-ce important pour la communauté juive? Si le pays le plus puissant du monde est incapable de soutenir son leadership, et represente votre soutien le plus fervent, sur qui donc pourra compter Israël pour fournir ce véto qui lui permet d'agir en toute impunité? Il faudra réfléchir.
This year was also the year of treason and deceit on a personal level; because I would not endorse the Israeli incursion against Gaza, the Israeli Sephardic community did what they were taught: turn against a fellow Jew since rather than realize that the entire world had condemned the attack, they decided to "teach me a lesson". They did exactly what the Hasbara does when Israel knowingly trespasses the boundaries of human rights: they developed a negative propaganda about me, and it went viral on the internet. Some of their emails, which were not supposed to have reached me, did. I pity those individuals, as they will continue to be sheep instead of shepherds. And as I have been taught, success is usually the best revenge. Women's Lens has soared in its rating, and we are fast approaching the quarter million mark in our readership. Writers and filmmakers turn to Women's Lens for reviews of their books and films. Those who have kept a cooler head turn to Women's Lens when they need their voices heard.
Cette année, j'ai aussi été l'objet de la trahison et la tromperie sur le plan personnel, parce que je refusais d'appuyer l'incursion israélienne contre Gaza, la communauté sépharade d'Israël firent ce qu'ils ont appris: se retourner contre une Juive compatriote. Au lieu de se rendre compte que le monde entier avait condamné l'attaque, ils ont décidé de "me donner une leçon». Ils ont fait exactement ce que la Hasbara fait quand Israël, agissant toujours au nom de la défense, viole les droits humains de manière inexcusable: ils ont développé une propagande négative à mon sujet, qui s'est développé rapidement sur Internet. Certains de leurs courriels, que je ne devais pas voir, me sont parvenus. Je ne peux m'empêcher de plaindre ces individus, car ils continuerons à agir comme un troupeau au lieu de bergers. Et comme je l'ai appris, le succès est généralement la meilleure vengeance. Women's Lens est devenu la page à consulter, et nous approchons rapidement de la marque d'un quart de million de lecteurs. CAFÉ DE LA PAIX PARIS OPERA

When I was a child, my dad used to tell me lots of interesting stories about his trips abroad during the 20's and 30's One of these stories was about Le Café De La Paix in Paris. In 1970, I sat at the terrace of the Café, thinking of my beloved father, that I missed so much, wondering at which tables he sat He was still living in Cairo. I was not permitted to go back to Egypt to visit him and share my traveling experiences, and the lovely hour I spent at the Café De La Paix, having lunch and enjoy watching les passants. I envy you lucky Parisians.
I hope you'll get all the pictures. There's so much written about the Café De La Paix that I could have spent few hours I tried to re-arrange to make it more comprehensive, but I couldn't because I will loose most of the pics. First I thought comparing Café Riche du Caire with its unique, charming and warm ambiance, with this historic and luxurious Café Enjoy.
Café De La Paix, next to the Opéra Garnier, the Café de la Paix is the quintessential 19th-century cafe. It was designed by Charles Garnier and sports frescoes, mirrored walls, and Neoclassical ceilings with winking "epicurean cherubs." Oscar Wilde frequented the cafe; today it caters to the after-theater crowd and other deep-pocketed patrons.

JEAN LOUIS CHARLES GARNIER (6 November 1825 - 3 August 1898), French architect, was born in Paris .
Opéra Garnier works begun in 1861, but delayed in its completion by the Franco-German War, it was not till 1875 that the structure of the present Grand Opera House of Paris was finished, at a cost of about 35,000,000 francs . Of Garnier's other works, the most remarkable are the Casino at Monte Carlo, the Bischoffsheim villa at Bordighera, the Hotel du Cercle de la Librairie in Paris; and, among tombs, those of the musicians Bizet, Offenbach, Masse and Duprato. In 1874 he was elected a member of the Institute of France, and after passing through the grades of chevalier, officer and commander of the Legion of Honour, received in 18 9 5 the rank of grand officer, a high distinction that had never before been granted to an architect. Charles Garnier's reputation was not confined to France; it was recognized by all the countries of Europe, and in England he received, in 1886, the royal gold medal of the Royal Institute of Architects, given by Queen Victoria on the occasion of her visit to Paris.. He worked on the Temple of Aphaea in Aegina. Besides his monograph on the temple of Aegina, he wrote several works, of which Le Nouvel Opera de Paris is the most valuable. For the International Exhibition of 1889 he designed the buildings illustrating the "History of the House" in all periods, and a work on this subject was afterwards published by him in conjunction with M. Ammann. Not the least of his claims to the gratitude of his country were the services which he rendered on the various art juries appointed by the state, the Institute of France, and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, services which in France are rendered in an honorary capacity

Cafe was opened June 30, as a cafe and a restaurant of the hotel with similar name which later was renamed to Grand Hotel, became an international rendez-vous place for artists serviced visitors of Expo exhibition in 1867. Proximity to Palais Garnier attracted a lot of famous men. Some visitors of cafe was Jules Massenet, Chagall, Émile Zola, Guy de Maupassant, Truman, Leclerc, la Callas,comptèrent parmi les habitués du Café de la paix . In 1986 at Cafe was being arranged a showing. In years of "Belle Époque" some visitors was Sergei Diaghilev, Prince of Wales, future King of the United Kingdom Edward VII at alias.

C'est beau, c'est bon, et c'est Jitrois qui l'a fait. Depuis 2005, le célèbre Café de la Paix (5, place de l'Opéra, IX e ) confie quatre fois par an la conception d'une pâtisserie à un grand couturier, en écho à l'opération Paris, capitale de la mode. Succédant à Franck Sorbier et son « Porte-bonheur » (un millefeuille en forme de coeur), le pape du cuir stretch, Jean-Claude Jitrois, a présenté hier « Sarah », un hommage chocolaté au tableau du même nom représentant l'actrice Sarah Bernhardt, dont l'original est exposé au Petit Palais. Le coin de toile, en chocolat blanc, est posé sur un cadre recouvert de chocolat noir du Mexique, lui-même fourré d'une ganache en chocolat noir du Venezuela. Réalisée par le chef du Café de la Paix (meilleur ouvrier de France), la pâtisserie sera mise en vente du 16 mai au 15 septembre au prix de 15 €. Onze couturiers célèbres parmi lesquels Paco Rabanne, Agnès B., Chantal Thomass ou Olivier Lapidus se sont déjà prêtés à l'exercice.

Café de la Paix is extremely popular. The famous large bustling café sits on a busy Paris intersection, across from the Opera — it's one of the best places in Paris for people-watching.
One menu item that you might want to try is a favorite of the Parisians — Croque Monsieur — a toasted Ham and Grilled Cheese sandwich. It's deeeeelicious!

The Hotel's Le Café de la Paix is reputedly the most famous restaurant in Paris - breathtaking surroundings, lovingly restored - where one can enjoy superb of food and wine but also mix with the rich and famous - while tossing about their fox scarves and in today's world young very thin girls with lots of bare skin. Lucky for us the Café is open all day and my guest had a wonderful breakfast. During my afternoon espresso the room was filled with business people and socialites enjoying afternoon tea with the delicious Mille Feuilles and Tutu Opéra. .
Le Café de la Paix dessert
The intimate Bar du Grand located on the ground floor under the beautiful domed glass roof. They serve a wonderful selection of hot & cold canapés and snacks, including smoked salmon, caviar, croque monsieur, pates, salads and club sandwiches. There is a large and comprehensive drink menu all perfect for early evening cocktails or coffee and liqueurs after a night at the Opera.

Mes poèmes circulent et font la ronde
Mais rien ne change, la haine, la violence
Les tueries, les viols, le racisme, l'injustice,
Le mal, continuent à terroriser sans arrêt,
A frapper les femmes, les nouveaux-nés
Les adultes, les vieillards à la recherche
De la paix. Nombreux sont ceux qui prêchent
Le bien, la tolérance, l'amour ou se battent
Pour un meilleur monde, mais le mal frappe
Et sème la haine tout autour. Dois-je laisser
Tomber ma plume, enterrer ma volonté,
Ma foi dans la paix pour la hache de la guerre?
Le sang des martyrs nourrit ma plume, naguère
Stérile par mon silence. Je dis: il faut parler, s'unir
Pour éliminer l'indifférence au mal et en finir
De la violence, les guerres meurtrières sans fin,
Pour l'espérance, la bonté et l'amour sur le chemin
De la paix dans un monde transformé où régne
L'intégrité, l'entente, l'égalité et la fraternité.
Utopies! je suis soulagé d'exprimer mes pensées.
