Adriana Lucia : Champeta Rosa

With Carlos Vives and Andres Castro producing her, Adriana Lucia's star is on the rise, and this track shows why. She's got a great, warm, rangy voice with the perfect amount of rasp, and the rhythm section truly kicks butt. The song is from her "Porro Nuevo" CD. Porro is a Colombian musical form, usually played by brass bands, and the traditional stuff sounds almost like a Second Line clavé. Lucia's Porro Nuevo takes that beat and layers it with delicious accordion sounds. The title of the song,"Champeta Rosa" is a tip of the hat to Juan Luis Guerra, whose "Bachata Rosa" was a landmark song for Dominican music.
